Gifts To buy a Skater 2024
What to buy a skater for 2024
Tis the holiday season, and that usually comes with gift giving!
It’s never too late to buy something for someone, especially if you’re treating yourself
So here are 3 skate gifts you need to buy this week
If you buy a £50 gift card online with Flipper’s before the 31st Dec, and use the code ‘HOLIDAY23’, you’ll only pay £25!
All gift card purchases are 50% off with this code if bought before Dec 31st, so HURRY UP!
What can you buy with it?
Entry to Flipper’s nights
Skate hire
Pro Shop Merch; Clothes AND skate accessories… (they have All American Wheels, Fo-mac, Energy, and even light-up wheels. Not to mention lots of Jam Plugs)
Food and drinks
So think about it like this…
Entry is £17 + £5 skate hire, so £23. Or you can get an entry and Pizza combo ticket for £30 (saves you about £3-6), Now you’re In, skating and fed, and then you check out the Pro Shop~
Fo-Mac freestyle wheels are £99! Those Dr Dre X Flanure Skates are £400, and then the bearings you desperately need are around £60…
That bill is getting LONG!
Your wallet *crying: “Keep it simple I beg”
£30 ticket and entry plus £60 bearings
The Maths: You buy a £90 Gift Card, use the code above, and you only pay £45. So you’ve gotten 50% off!
Them Dre x Flanures Skates could be yours for £200!
Be Quick, I don’t know what the stock in the Pro Shop is sayin… but I’m gonna find myself down there this weekend.
And yes, you could stock up on the max available: 5 Gift cards per person, and max amount is £200, so you could buy £1000 worth for about £500. And it’ll be valid until 30/06/2024.
Personally~
50% off tickets for the next 6 months sounds great to me.
2. A Eurostar ticket to Paris for June
If you know you’re going to RDV Paris, Then why not take Eurostar?
Honestly, I love taking the train to Paris, it’s so much more simple than flying. And the station is right in the centre of the city! I get off the train and I walk to my favourite hostel. No second commute into town from the airport is needed.
Frequent travellers would know, So I’ll clue you in…
Prices rise.
Even more so on Eurostar.
Every month closer to the date you want to travel, is another £10 added to that ticket.
If you buy it now, you could get a train to Paris for £100
Yes, a flight could be cheaper or the same… but you have to travel more to get to and from the airports. Kings Cross to Gare Du Nord are much more appealing travel choices to me.
I’ll write about the comparison more some other time, but trust me when I say the train is worth it.
Unless you buy it in 2 months time when all the prices rise… then it’s not.
3. Detroit plane ticket
! This is going to be THE skate trip of 2024 !
I know Your Jam Plug is a UK-based site, but we can’t deny the influence the American Skate scene has on us. I can hear their rinks calling my wheels !
Every 2 years is Soul Skate Detroit, a Skate Weekender that's BIG! Bigger than any skate festival we have in Europe I’d say.
And it makes sense since most rinks in the US are huge in comparison to ours.
Without a doubt, a few groups of European skaters will be making the journey this coming year… But Skating aint cheap.
Flights alone will probably reach London rent prices 😭
Then you add hotels, car hire, the tickets and the spending money … yeah, imma need to get 3 more jobs just for this.
Back to my point, There’s one great way to cut down the budget.
January Sales
Flights also have sales in the holiday season, you just have to keep an eye out!
During ‘Black Friday’, London to Detroit tickets that were creeping around £900, went down to £500
So we’re bound to see a similar drop in January.
Get Ready!
[The only reason I didn’t buy my ticket is because no one else was buying yet, and I don’t mind going solo, but I would like at least 1 person to be deffo coming too]
4. Plenty of other options
There are skate shops all over the country and around Europe too. Many have their own blogs on the ideal gifts to buy skaters as well as their own gift cards. So if you need something a bit more reasonable, I’d recommend you check out the Community Links page and find a local shop or group.
I feel like I should’ve saved more in 2023…
