Skating in Autumn

It’s so cold and rainy outside… but a skater’s gonna skate!

If it’s your first cold season on 8’s, welcome to ‘The Struggle’.

Dry floor is like striking oil.

Fighting against the wind is a daily battle.

and omg the leaves and conkers… pain in the BACKSIDE!

But this is not to put you off, imma hold your hand an convince you, you CAN do this!

How to embrace skating in the cold season.

First things, first. You need to warm up.

The cold is painful, i repeat, being cold, is just asking for pain.

Think about the time you got hurt in winter and how it sent a shiver up your whole body. you don’t want that!

So, make sure to warm up (even in summer) to reduce the chance of injury.

Get your body ready for what you’re about to put it through… I beg, please.

Next up, wet weather and the affect on your bearings.

moisture will damage your bearings.

So keep them dry and clean.

that’s it ~

Skating safe outside, I recommend wearing gear.

Hear me out, if you’re new to skating in wet weather, you’ll quickly learn that the floor is slippery.

easy solution, if you’re already prone to slip n falls, wear some protection.

They make bum pad shorts and shin guards to go under your clothes as well as the traditional set.

No one can force you to wear them, but I highly recommend it!

So, Where do we skate?

If this post put you off (and I hope not…) you can always skate inside.

Check our Community Hub page for a list of indoor venues, plus groups that offer events both in and outdoors.

On a real one, I recommend going to your local park first, find a few skaters to brave the cold with, and if in doubt, drop us a message, I’ll try (key word is ‘try’) to get back to you on advice.

Now this was more of a “brr I’m cold and grouchy” mumble about the cold, but I hope something was helpful. Or at the very least, you know that we’re all in this together!
